Pahang ~ Kuantan to Cherating

Kuantan

Kuantan is the state capital and is the main gateway to the east coast. In and around this quaint town there are attractions. 

Shopping

The main shopping complexes in town are the Berjaya Megamall, Komplex Teruntum, and Kuantan Parade. 

 

Teluk Chempedak

Two world class hotels are located here. The beach is excellent for water sports activities such as sailing, canoeing, jet skiing, surfing, and sunbathing. For those who like jungle trekking, you can trek through Teluk Chempedak Forest Reserve to the idyllic Pelindung Beach. More trekking is available on the route from the beach to the mini zoo nearby at Taman Teruntum, which offers some real jungle environment.

Location: 5km from the town of Kuantan.

 

State Mosque

This magnificent State Mosque built in 1991 is a major landmark in Kuantan town with its four minarets.

 

Balok Beach

Balok Beach is about 15km north of Kuantan -

Beserah

A pleasant small fishing village is well known for salted fish.  The unique practice of employing water buffaloes to transport fish from the boats to the processing area is seen here. 

Cherating Beach

It is one of the most popular hangout place for beach-combers, Cherating is now a popular tourist destination with its own unique special attraction. Till today it stills preserve its unique identity as an exclusive vacationers paradise offering typical village life style and atmosphere.

Offering excellent beaches, its unique features are the rustic atmosphere and the warm hospitality of the village folk.  It has budget shacks by the sea, a handful of bars, some good restaurants and windsurfer breezes.

Location:  47 km N of Kuantan.

Handicrafts

Along the beach of Cherating you can't miss the abundance of mini markets, evening food stalls and a few self-styled "art galleries" offering opportunity for tourists to learn about local handicrafts. Among the more popular handicrafts that are found in Cherating is the batik printing, and Pandanus leaves weaving just to name a few. A hands on experience is always welcome from the village folks that will be more than happy to impart their knowledge to you and also allow you to purchase your self-made product.

 

Chendor Beach

Turtle Watching

Here, from early July to September, you can watch green turtles or occasionally giant leatherback turtles lumber ashore to lay eggs. Though it’s numbers have declined in recent years, It is a ritual well worth experiencing. Besides the turtles. Chendor Beach offers fine bathing spots. Those seeking peace and seclusion will enjoy the beach.
