Roads
Peninsula Malaysia has 27,00 kilometres of paved roads and growing. An overland journey can be made easily through the North-South Expressway on the west coast and through the East-West Highway to the East coast. The North-South Expressway is a 850km dual carriage runs from Bukit Kayu Hitam in the north at the Thai border to the Johor Causeway in the south. The speed limit is usually 110km/hr, but in some areas it is only 90km/hr. Expressway users pay a toll based on the distance traveled and the type of vehicle. Located along the Expressway are several rest and service areas with food stalls, toilets etc. To drive on Malaysian roads, you require a Malaysian Competent Driving Licence, Probitionary Driving Licence or an International Driving Licence. To use a foreign driving, an endorsement would have to be obtained by the Road Transport Department. |
Express Buses Express bus services are readily available to all destinations and virtually connect to all parts of the country. Fares are reasonable and the buses are air-conditioned and relatively comfortable.
Standard bus is AC, 42 seats; "Business" VIP 24-25 seats; "Executive" Super VIP has 21-24 seats with WC, snacks & nonstop. |

Taxi's
There are also taxis available though it may be expensive and not always readily available when you want one. If you are taking a taxi to go out of the city or town and do no want to hire the whole taxi, you then would probably have to wait for the taxi to get enough passengers before it is able to proceed.
