Dataran Lang (Eagle Square) “The island of eagles” is personified by the impressive giant statue of a Brahminy Kite Eagle at the square. According to local legend Langkawi derives its name from Helang, or “Lang” for short, meaning eagle and "Kawi" meaning reddish brown. This majestic giant bird statue at Eagle Square or Dataran Lang is probably the first sight that greets visitors when they arrive by sea. A great place to take a stroll with restaurants, terraces and a huge eagle sculpture poised over the island.
